Round one of the internal UNC constituency elections are over and victorious slates are now mobilising to prepare for the local and general elections.
Newly-elected public relations officer of the Fyzabad constituency Doodnath Mayrhoo said the healing process has started as they have reached out to the losing slates so there will be co-operation in the real fight against the People's National Movement (PNM).
Chairman of the UNC David Lee said the constituency elections was proof of the democracy that existed in the UNC.
"The constituency positions were contested and what we saw at the end was there was absolutely no fragmentation coming out of any constituency. People now have a new executive in place and they are prepared to work with each other," he said.
The remaining constituency elections will take place next weekend.
"With constituency elections out of the way. Lee said the new executive will mobilise for the upcoming elections.
"They will be organising the ground troops and getting together the party groups. We will be registering new members and identify street captains. This election will put the party on a sound footing so we will be able to work together to put the PNM out of office," he said.
Constituency executive election is held every two years and has been overdue by four months.
A total of 12 positions ranging from chairman to secretary are to be filled for each of the 41 constituencies.
