The United National Congress (UNC) has triggered recounts in three constituencies. According to the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) the UNC has asked for recounts in the San Fernando East, Malabar/Mausica (formerly D’abadie/O’meara) and Arouca/Lopinot (formerly Lopinot/Bon Air West) seats.
The candidates for the San Fernando East seat are Brian Manning (PNM), John Michael Alibocas (UNC) and Kenrick Serette (PF). Meanwhile Malabar/Mausica was contested by Dominic Romain (PNM), Dominic Smith (UNC), and Anita Hankey (PF). Arouca/Lopinot’s candidates are Marvin Gonzales (PNM), Natalie Chaitain-Maharaj (UNC), Nicholas Lee (PF) and Nicolene Taylor-Chinchamee (NTA).
We understand the recounts started at 3 PM.
Only when those are completed will the EBC release its preliminary results from yesterday’s election which will include the allocation of seats to the UNC, PNM and Tobago People’s Party (TPP). The overall voter turnout is also expected to be in that document.
These recounts would have had to have been requested by the UNC by midday today.
Early results last night reportedly gave the UNC 27 seats, 2 for the TPP and 12 for the PNM.
