United Nations in T&T congratulates Kamla

The Unit­ed Na­tions Res­i­dent Co­or­di­na­tor and the Unit­ed Na­tions Coun­try Team in Trinidad and To­ba­go have con­grat­u­lat­ed Prime Min­is­ter-elect Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar.

In a post to its Face­book page, the body said, "We ac­knowl­edge the peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go and their com­mit­ment to the de­mo­c­ra­t­ic process and a peace­ful tran­si­tion of pow­er. The Unit­ed Na­tions Team is look­ing for­ward to build­ing a close part­ner­ship, fo­cus­ing on the long-term de­vel­op­ment pri­or­i­ties of the coun­try."

Per­sad-Bisses­sar will be sworn in on Thurs­day af­ter­noon at 4pm at Pres­i­dent's House. It marks a re­turn to the po­si­tion af­ter 10 years out of of­fice. Per­sad-Bisses­sar be­came this coun­try's first fe­male Prime Min­is­ter in 2010 when she won with the Peo­ple's Part­ner­ship. She went on to lose both the 2010 and 2015 Gen­er­al Elec­tions be­fore re­turn­ing to pow­er on Mon­day.
