Police believe the fatal shooting of two people and serious wounding of one person on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway earlier today, may have been gang-related.
Guardian Media understands that Commissioner of Police (Ag) McDonald Jacob was on the scene of the incident and told reporters that gang rivalry may be behind the shooting incident which left two people dead, and one person seriously wounded, and in critical condition at hospital.
Reports are that at about 11 am, the three occupants of a black Toyota Altis were driving along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway. They were said to be heading home after attending a fete held at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
They reportedly had reached the section just opposite the stadium when the occupants of another vehicle opened fire on them.
Their vehicle is said to have run off the road and into the bushes. Two of the vehicle's occupants died at the scene, while the other was seriously wounded.
The incident created a major traffic gridlock along the highway while first responders, including officers from the Police and Fire services, were processing the scene.
This is a developing story and Guardian Media will update it as details come to hand.
