A US citizen was robbed twice of $66,000 in cash in Port-of-Spain, on Thursday.
The 65-year-old man of Esmeralda Gardens, Cunupia who currently resides in Queens, New York was reportedly standing on Prince Street around 1.10 pm on October 23, when two men walked up and grabbed his bag, which contained TT$66,000, US $300, his Citibank credit card and his passport.
As the two robbers took off running towards George Street, the victim gave chase. One of the suspects fell and the victim was able to recover the bag with the money.
As he grabbed the bag, however, another man ran up and grabbed it out of his hands before pushing him down and kicking him about the body. The bandit then ran off towards a nearby apartment building.
Minutes later, another man walked up to the victim and handed him the bag, which contained only the US passport.
A report was made to the police and a request for CCTV footage has been submitted by investigators.
