This country’s Ministry of Health has received a donation of a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine from the United States Government, valued at US$52,928.

The PCR machine was handed over this morning by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Shante Moore to the Ministry of Health’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram at the Trinidad Public Health Laboratory, Federation Park, St. Clair.

“This donation is the realization of a commitment we made last year.  It supports Trinidad and Tobago’s fight against COVID-19 and strengthens the region’s response through the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).  The Biden-Harris Administration recognizes that COVID-19 is a global challenge that requires a global response,” said Chargé d’Affaires Moore.

He added: “The Ministry of Health has been doing great work to lead Trinidad and Tobago out of the pandemic.  Trinidad and Tobago can continue to count on the United States to be a key partner in our joint efforts to protect the health and safety of our citizens, whether combatting the pandemic or working together in other areas of mutual interest.”

During the pandemic, the United States has donated approximately US$2.5 million worth of equipment and other resources to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to help in the fight against this deadly disease.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
