Police are investigating the killing of a 42-year-old man at his home along the Eastern Main Road, Valencia Stretch, Sangre Grande, in the early hours of Good Friday.
Sherman Lambkin, described as a state witness in a previous murder in Valencia, was shot dead around 2.45am.
According to reports, his wife was asleep when Lambkin arrived home and entered the house. As he went into the kitchen, a man kicked open the door and opened fire. She reported hearing several loud explosions and seeing flashes as Lambkin fell. The gunman then stood over him and continued shooting before fleeing.
The woman later found her husband unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and upper body and contacted police.
Officers from Sangre Grande Police Station and Valencia Police Post responded, along with the Arouca Homicide Bureau, Region 2. Investigators found Lambkin lying on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds to the head, chest, right hand and left leg.
Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and recovered items of evidential value. A district medical officer pronounced death and ordered the removal of the body pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre.
