The Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC) office in Princes Town has been closed until further notice after a van crashed into the building at St Croix Junction on Sunday and broke down a section of its wall.
Guardian Media was told that one of the wheels of the van, a company vehicle, landed inside an office.
The driver was treated at the Princes Town Hospital.
When Guardian Media visited yesterday, workmen were repairing the wall, and the front door was locked. Customers were advised via a sign on the door that the office was closed until further notice.
Princes Town Member of Parliament Dr Aiyna Ali visited the office and met with employees who were working inside the building.
She said, “The physical office remains closed, but the EBC has decided to use TTPost to mail the documents and ID cards that persons would need for themselves.”
The MP said she had no further details on the matter, but she was relieved that no one was in the building at the time of the crash.
“What happened is that the van crashed into one of the offices that is in there, so it was very fortunate that it happened on Sunday, and no one was there, and no one got hurt.”
Ali advised drivers to be careful on the nation’s roadways and be mindful of their surroundings.
Princes Town Police are investigating.
