Van­dals stole elec­tri­cal ca­bles and con­trol equip­ment from the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty’s (WASA) Scott’s Road Well #1 over the week­end, cut­ting wa­ter sup­ply to thou­sands of cus­tomers in south Trinidad.

The Au­thor­i­ty con­firmed the in­ci­dent oc­curred overnight on Sat­ur­day and has left ap­prox­i­mate­ly 4,000 cus­tomers along Pe­nal Rock Road and Siparia af­fect­ed.

WASA said re­pair crews are car­ry­ing out ex­ten­sive elec­tri­cal works to re­store op­er­a­tions at the fa­cil­i­ty and ex­pect the job to be com­plet­ed by 8 p.m. on Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 9.

As a re­sult of the out­age, cus­tomers in Boodoo’s De­vel­op­ment, along Pe­nal Rock Road from Scott’s Road Junc­tion to Morne Di­a­blo Junc­tion, as well as Scott’s Road prop­er and Morne Di­a­blo prop­er, may ex­pe­ri­ence low pres­sure or no wa­ter.

WASA con­demned the act of van­dal­ism and urged mem­bers of the pub­lic to re­port sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty near its in­stal­la­tions to the po­lice or its cus­tomer con­tact cen­tre at 800-4420/4426.

The Au­thor­i­ty apol­o­gised for the in­con­ve­nience and thanked cus­tomers for their pa­tience.
