Vandals stole electrical cables and control equipment from the Water and Sewerage Authority’s (WASA) Scott’s Road Well #1 over the weekend, cutting water supply to thousands of customers in south Trinidad.
The Authority confirmed the incident occurred overnight on Saturday and has left approximately 4,000 customers along Penal Rock Road and Siparia affected.
WASA said repair crews are carrying out extensive electrical works to restore operations at the facility and expect the job to be completed by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9.
As a result of the outage, customers in Boodoo’s Development, along Penal Rock Road from Scott’s Road Junction to Morne Diablo Junction, as well as Scott’s Road proper and Morne Diablo proper, may experience low pressure or no water.
WASA condemned the act of vandalism and urged members of the public to report suspicious activity near its installations to the police or its customer contact centre at 800-4420/4426.
The Authority apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience.
