Days after Guardian Media highlighted the plight of a family involving two Venezuelan couples and 12 children living in an abandoned container in Penal, the family has been relocated.
Co-ordinator of the La Romaine Migrant Support Group Angie Ramnarine said some female Venezuelan benefactors took the family away to live in a two-bedroom home in the Agua Santa region in Arima.
“A man (named withheld) has offered an unfinished dwelling to them, that is equipped with lights and water,” Ramnarine said.
She said the family still has not found work.
“They have received food supplies, personal care items and baby clothing as well as diapers which they have taken with them,” Ramnarine said.
She noted that members of the Santa Rosa RC Church will be visiting the family to make sure they are doing well.
Like millions of other Venezuelans, the family left Venezuela in search of a better life.
Sisters Anna, 28 and Auris Marcano, 29, their husbands and 12 of their siblings and children had been living inside an abandoned 20-foot container since they were kicked out of their rented apartment in San Fernando.
Two weeks ago Auris gave birth to a baby on the floor of the derelict container which leaks during rainfall.
Marcano came to Trinidad two years ago. Anna left behind two of her sons aged 11 and 12.
She said since they lost their jobs, she has been unable to provide food and money to the children she left behind.
