A Venezuelan national is believed to have been electrocuted while on a jobsite in Marabella on Wednesday.
Police, however, are awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm how 19-year-old Jose Gregory Herrera died.
He lived at St Julien Village, Princes Town.
Initial reports stated that Herrera was working with a Moruga contractor and other workers around 4:30 pm at Unit 5 Tropical Plaza along the Southern Main Road. They were doing construction work for Persads D Food King when he attempted to unplug a Hilti Jackhammer, which was plugged into an extension cord. Eyewitnesses said Herrera suddenly fell on his back in a semi-conscious state.
The contractor and another man went to his aid and took him to the Southern Medical Clinic, where he was pronounced dead around 5:28 pm.
An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre.
Cpl Ramdath is continuing enquiries.
