Police are searching for a Venezuelan woman who was kidnapped on Sunday night from the carpark of the Double Palm Inn in Central Trinidad.

The woman was identified as Anyeliz Maria Laverde Velasquez, 25, of Mc Bean, Couva.

A 35-year-old labourer, who reported the incident around 9 am yesterday, told police he paid a $5,000 ransom but she was not released.

The man, who lives at the same address, told police that around 8.30 pm on Sunday, he dropped the woman at Double Palm Inn carpark, Derrick Road, Chase Village, to meet a friend and saw her enter a black Toyota Aqua.

As he left the compound, and parked on the road, he heard her calling for help. The black Aqua then drove off with her. Shortly after, a man called his phone and demanded $5,000 for her release.

Around 10 pm, the male caller directed him to Carli Bay Road in Couva to pay the ransom.

When he arrived, he met two suspects, one of whom pointed a gun at him and announced a holdup. They took the money and left.

He told police calls to the woman’s phone have gone unanswered and he does not know her whereabouts.

The Anti Kidnapping Unit was contacted and is investigating.
