A video which started on TikTok and then spread to WhatsApp showing Prime Minister Rowley announcing joint police and army patrols is from 2016. In the video, the prime minister is heard saying the patrols will operate "virtually permanently."
The video was taken from 103.1fm's Facebook page.
In a response, Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds said on Facebook, "The mischief in this country is non-ending! There is a video circulating this evening, featuring the Prime Minister giving instructions to his then-minister, on the government’s response to the crime surge at that time. This video is fake!!! Fake in the sense that it is the Prime Minister speaking at a past event and circumstance. The Prime Minister gave no such direction to me, as the now serving Minister of National Security, today; or in recent days. It is an old recording, pertaining to events at that time."
