Warrant after wheelchair man fails to attend court

A war­rant has been is­sued for the ar­rest of a wheel­chair-bound Mon Re­pos man af­ter he failed to at­tend court yes­ter­day to an­swer some eight traf­fic of­fences. Se­nior Mag­is­trate Ra­jen­dra Ram­bachan, pre­sid­ing in the San Fer­nan­do Traf­fic Court, is­sued the war­rant af­ter Steve Brown, of Com­mis­sion Street, Mon Re­pos, did not turn up for his court hear­ing.

Brown, rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Ains­ley Lucky, was charged with dri­ving a ve­hi­cle with­out hold­ing a dri­ver's per­mit, fail­ing to have a dri­ver's per­mit for pro­duc­tion up­on re­quest, dri­ving a marked "H" car while not be­ing the hold­er of a taxi dri­ver's per­mit and fail­ing to pro­duce a taxi dri­ver's per­mit.

When Brown did not show up for court by 10.59 am the mag­is­trate said: "I wait­ed all morn­ing, that's enough."He is­sued the war­rant for Brown's ar­rest and with an or­der that he be placed on $25,000 bail.Brown was al­so charged with dri­ving with­out in­sur­ance, fail­ing to pro­duce a pol­i­cy of in­sur­ance up­on re­quest, fail­ing to wear a seat­belt and fail­ing to stop at the re­quest of a po­lice of­fi­cer's sig­nal.

All eight of­fences oc­curred last June 11 at the Na­pari­ma-Ma­yaro Road. PC Valen­tine East­man laid the charges.
