A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a wheelchair-bound Mon Repos man after he failed to attend court yesterday to answer some eight traffic offences. Senior Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan, presiding in the San Fernando Traffic Court, issued the warrant after Steve Brown, of Commission Street, Mon Repos, did not turn up for his court hearing.
Brown, represented by attorney Ainsley Lucky, was charged with driving a vehicle without holding a driver's permit, failing to have a driver's permit for production upon request, driving a marked "H" car while not being the holder of a taxi driver's permit and failing to produce a taxi driver's permit.
When Brown did not show up for court by 10.59 am the magistrate said: "I waited all morning, that's enough."He issued the warrant for Brown's arrest and with an order that he be placed on $25,000 bail.Brown was also charged with driving without insurance, failing to produce a policy of insurance upon request, failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to stop at the request of a police officer's signal.
All eight offences occurred last June 11 at the Naparima-Mayaro Road. PC Valentine Eastman laid the charges.
