The murder of Barataria teenager D’Andre Hercules on Wednesday night has been linked to ongoing gang warfare in the area.
Hercules, 17, of Upper Sixth Avenue, Malick, was shot multiple times as he sat in a gallery at the back of his home speaking with a female relative around 10.25 pm.
Reports are that a masked gunman who was dressed in black approached them and ordered: “Doh run, doh move.”
The woman ran into the house screaming leaving Hercules, a student at the MIC Institute of Technology alone as the gunman opened fire.
Investigators retrieved three 9 mm spent shell casings and; five 5.56 mm spent shell casings at the scene.
At the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, the teen’s relatives recalled his ability “to make you smile.”
A family member, who did not want to be identified, blamed the murder on a “man warring a man four streets away.” He claimed feuding gangs had been competing to “get foot soldiers” and “is the youths and them who don’t know better.”
He added: “That ain’t going to stop now. Is time people give up some of their liberties for things to get right.”
