The following is the bulletin issued by the Met Service to 06:00 am, today, covering the period: today until midnight…

TRINIDAD, TOBAGO AND THE WINDWARD ISLANDS

Today’s sunny conditions will be interrupted by occasional light to moderate showers, with the medium (60%) chance of one or two isolated daytime thunderstorms. Partly cloudy evening and night with a few lingering showers. Gusty winds and street/flash flooding are likely near heavy downpours.

■   An Adverse Weather Alert/YELLOW Level is in effect until 12:00 PM today, Friday 7 October 2022, for Northern Trinidad, Tobago and surrounding marine areas.

The potential for impactful weather over the majority of Trinidad has significantly reduced. However, Northern parts of Trinidad, Tobago and offshore areas are still experiencing periods of moderate/heavy showers/rain. There is still the chance of the isolated thunderstorm overnight. Any additional rainfall can exacerbate flooding in some areas and landslips/landslides are possible in areas so prone. Seas can also become agitated at times.

Instructions:     Do not wade or drive through flood waters. Secure loose outdoor items and livestock. Persons are advised to monitor weather conditions and river levels. More information available at www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt

■   A Riverine Flood Alert/ ORANGE Level is in effect until 5:00 PM today, Friday 7 October 2022, for major watercourses of Trinidad (including the North Oropouche, Caroni and South Oropouche Rivers), as well as in Tobago (including the Crooks and Darrell Spring Rivers).

Continuous rainfall overnight has pushed major watercourses to critical thresholds, and some may be close to overspilling or already doing so. Periods of heavy showers, rain and thunderstorms are still expected. This additional rainfall, in combination with spring tides, can keep the river levels elevated and there now exists a severe risk to public safety, livelihood and property. Smaller water courses over both Trinidad and Tobago are also elevated and can burst their banks with additional rainfall.

Instructions:     Finalize preparations to protect lives, livelihoods, and property. Activate your safety plan. Secure food, water, and medicine for at least 7 days in waterproof containers. Protect important assets and documents. Do not take unnecessary risks. Follow the instructions of government officials. Monitor official sources for information, such as www.metoffice.gov.tt/ and www.odpm.gov.tt
