The following is the bulletin issued by the Met Service to 06:00 am, today, covering the period: today until midnight…

For TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO… A Riverine Flood Alert #1 (YELLOW Level) is in effect.  Areas affected include Southern Trinidad, specifically communities surrounding the South Oropouche River and its tributaries; and parts of Western Tobago, namely communities along the Crooks and Bacolet Rivers.

The South Oropouche River is very near its capacity and may have already breached its bank in some parts, with water spilling into surrounding communities in South Trinidad that are prone to flooding. There is expected to be an increase in the volume of water into this main watercourse with added rainfall from intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms expected during the course of today.

Due to heavy rainfall overnight in Tobago, the Crooks and Bacolet Rivers both overspilled their banks causing flooding in Scarborough.

Monitor weather conditions and river levels before venturing out. Avoid areas with flood waters. Monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water. Follow the instructions of government officials. More information available at www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt

TRINIDAD, TOBAGO AND THE LEEWARDS

Today’s sunshine will likely be interrupted by periods of cloudiness and showers, especially during the afternoon, and favouring Trinidad. There is also a medium (60%) chance of isolated thunderstorm activity. Tonight, conditions will be generally settled apart from lingering showers over a few areas. Isolated street/flash flooding events are possible with heavier downpours.

THE WINDWARD ISLANDS
