The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has declared the official start of the 2025 Wet Season, following rainfall linked to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

A Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert was issued from Saturday, May 17, and extended to Monday, May 19, after heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flash flooding in parts of Trinidad.

That Alert was discontinued on Monday afternoon.

The TTMS noted that although the ITCZ's main axis remains south, deep moisture in its broader environment is affecting T&T.

The El Niño Southern Oscillation currently is neutral but could shift to La Niña later in the season, potentially influencing rainfall.

The TTMS also confirmed the first tropical wave of the year and warned of increased Saharan dust in June.

The public is advised to prepare for the Wet and Hurricane Seasons.
