A 36-year-old woman is ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion af­ter she was shot in the neck fol­low­ing a car chase in Moru­ga on Tues­day night.

Po­lice are still in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mo­tive be­hind the at­tempt on the life of Suri­ta De­osaran.

Po­lice said around 10:30 pm De­osaran was dri­ving her grey jeep north along the Moru­ga Road, St Mary’s Vil­lage when a white Nis­san wag­on pro­ceed­ing in the same di­rec­tion along­side her opened fire on her car.

In an at­tempt to get away, De­osaran drove along an em­bank­ment but she lost con­trol and col­lid­ed with a co­conut tree near a se­cu­ri­ty fa­cil­i­ty.

An oc­cu­pant came out of the wag­on, ap­proached De­osaran's jeep and opened fire. The gun­man then got back in­to the wag­on which sped off.

When In­sp San­tana, Sgt Ish­mael and of­fi­cers of the ERP ar­rived on the scene, they saw De­osaran in a re­clined po­si­tion in the jeep with a gun­shot wound to the right side of her neck. They found a Glock 17 pis­tol on the floor near the dri­ver's seat. The gun was loaded with 18 rounds of 9 mm am­mu­ni­tion. Po­lice al­so re­trieved two spent 9 mm cas­ings on the road­way.

De­osaran was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where she un­der­went surgery yes­ter­day and is ward­ed in a sta­ble con­di­tion.
