Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the ab­duc­tion of a 40-year-old woman in the Beetham on Thurs­day night.

Po­lice said the woman, Melis­sa Dean, and a male rel­a­tive were tak­en by one of the rel­a­tive’s co-work­ers to Beetham Gar­dens around 10.30 am.

The dri­ver re­port­ed­ly stopped in an un­known part of the neigh­bour­hood, where a group of men ap­proached the car and pulled Dean out.

The male rel­a­tive was al­so dragged from the ve­hi­cle and beat­en, but he man­aged to es­cape by run­ning away.

Besson Street po­lice were called, but Dean was not found.

Of­fi­cers of the An­ti-Kid­nap­ping Unit (AKU) are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
