Po­lice are once again urg­ing the pub­lic to be cau­tious of crim­i­nals pos­ing as le­git­i­mate cus­tomers on­line af­ter a 60-year-old woman did not re­ceive pay­ment for a cam­era sys­tem she "sold" to a stranger.

Po­lice said the woman went to Grand Cu­ru­caye, San Juan, at 11 am on Sun­day to meet some­one who ex­pressed in­ter­est in buy­ing a cam­era sys­tem she had ad­ver­tised on Face­book Mar­ket­place.

While in the area, she met a man who gave his name as Mar­lon. He took the sys­tem and told her to go to a fast-food restau­rant in San Juan and ask for an em­ploy­ee who would give her the $2,000 owed.

The woman vis­it­ed the restau­rant and met the em­ploy­ee, who de­nied know­ing any­one named Mar­lon.

The woman tried call­ing Mar­lon sev­er­al times but was un­suc­cess­ful.

Po­lice have pre­vi­ous­ly ad­vised on­line sell­ers to re­ceive pay­ments for fi­nan­cial trans­ac­tions through di­rect de­posit or to hold such meet­ings in per­son at a po­lice sta­tion to re­duce the risk of be­ing robbed or scammed.
