Police are once again urging the public to be cautious of criminals posing as legitimate customers online after a 60-year-old woman did not receive payment for a camera system she "sold" to a stranger.
Police said the woman went to Grand Curucaye, San Juan, at 11 am on Sunday to meet someone who expressed interest in buying a camera system she had advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
While in the area, she met a man who gave his name as Marlon. He took the system and told her to go to a fast-food restaurant in San Juan and ask for an employee who would give her the $2,000 owed.
The woman visited the restaurant and met the employee, who denied knowing anyone named Marlon.
The woman tried calling Marlon several times but was unsuccessful.
Police have previously advised online sellers to receive payments for financial transactions through direct deposit or to hold such meetings in person at a police station to reduce the risk of being robbed or scammed.
