Even as the Government works to bring legislation to punish home invasion perpetrators with 25 years imprisonment, three more people were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night at their house in Mon Repos.
Police said the victims—Edward Miguel, 53, Cheryl Sandy, 55 and Sheldon Doolal, 39—were held up by two armed men who entered the property while Miguel and Doolal were liming outside the house.
The incident occurred around 11.20 pm.
Miguel, a labourer and Doolal, a shopkeeper, were outside Sandy’s residence when they were approached by the assailants who were armed with firearms.
The suspects robbed Miguel of a Samsung Galaxy A51 cellphone valued at $1,900, a pair of reading glasses worth $30, a pack of LM cigarettes valued at $20, and $51 in cash. They then forced Miguel and Doolal inside the house through a closed but unlocked side door.
Once inside, the suspects stole a quantity of cigarettes and $1,000 in cash from the ground floor shop area before proceeding upstairs to the bedroom where Sandy was resting.
One of the assailants placed his hand on Sandy’s throat, tied her hands and feet with a phone charger cord, and robbed her of two gold rings, a gold chain, a Bmobile Blu cellphone valued at $2,000, and $800 in cash.
Both suspects ran off.
Crime Scene Investigators PC Harricharan and PC Bhagwandeen processed the scene and recovered workable prints.
No arrests have yet been made.
