A 22-year-old woman has been ar­rest­ed af­ter po­lice seized a Glock pis­tol and am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es that al­so re­sult­ed in the re­cov­ery of an­oth­er firearm and cannabis fol­low­ing an al­leged con­fronta­tion with an armed sus­pect.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), of­fi­cers re­cov­ered two firearms, 21 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and ap­prox­i­mate­ly 236 grammes of cannabis dur­ing sep­a­rate op­er­a­tions car­ried out be­tween Tues­day and ear­ly Wednes­day.

The first ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed be­tween 8 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Tues­day by of­fi­cers of the DCP Op­er­a­tions Tac­ti­cal Team in the North­ern Di­vi­sion.

Act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, of­fi­cers went to Swift Av­enue, Mal­oney Gar­dens, where they searched for il­le­gal firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, po­lice said they found a Glock 19 pis­tol and six rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion. A 22-year-old woman of the ad­dress was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent at around 12:45 a.m. on Wednes­day, of­fi­cers of the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force re­spond­ed to in­for­ma­tion about a man re­port­ed­ly car­ry­ing a firearm near the aban­doned St. Joseph Sec­ondary School.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers sur­round­ed the com­pound be­fore en­ter­ing, where they en­coun­tered a man car­ry­ing a black bag. Up­on see­ing the of­fi­cers, the sus­pect al­leged­ly ran while hold­ing the bag.

The TTPS said of­fi­cers sta­tioned on the south­ern side of the com­pound or­dered the sus­pect to stop, but he ig­nored re­peat­ed com­mands.

Ac­cord­ing to the re­lease, the sus­pect then point­ed a firearm at the of­fi­cers. Fear­ing for their lives and those of their col­leagues, of­fi­cers dis­charged their ser­vice-is­sued firearms in keep­ing with the TTPS Use of Force Pol­i­cy.

The sus­pect es­caped in­to near­by over­grown bush­es de­spite an ex­ten­sive search.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers lat­er re­cov­ered a Walther P99 pis­tol loaded with 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and a plas­tic bag con­tain­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 236 grammes of cannabis in the area where the sus­pect fled.

No in­juries were re­port­ed dur­ing the in­ci­dent, and po­lice did not say whether the es­caped sus­pect had since been iden­ti­fied or ar­rest­ed.
