A 59-year-old woman was shot dead and her common-law husband was wounded after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle near the Debe Roundabout on Sunday night.
The victim has been identified as Elizabeth Lennard, also known as Mary. She died inside the couple’s white Nissan AD wagon.
Her husband, 63-year-old Premnath Enal, was injured but managed to drive to Rambert Village in La Romaine to seek help.
According to police reports, around 10:20 pm on Sunday, officers on mobile patrol in the La Romaine Police District responded to a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle along Church Street, Rambert Village.
When officers arrived, they found Lennard’s body in the front passenger seat, which had been reclined.
A resident told police that around 10:15 pm, she was at home when her neighbour called out to her. On checking, she saw Enal standing in her yard with blood on his clothes and injuries to his face.
The husband reported that they had been shot near the roundabout in Debe, and his wife died in the car.
Police are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
Enal remains warded in stable condition at hospital.
