A woman has been killed at the Gua­napo land­fill af­ter "com­ing in­to con­tact with the buck­et of an ex­ca­va­tor", the Sol­id Waste Man­age­ment Com­pa­ny (SWM­COL) has said.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred around 10.50 am.

SWM­COL said ini­tial re­ports in­di­cate that the woman was a scav­enger.

SWM­COL's Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Kevin Thomp­son has ex­pressed grief over the loss and has of­fered prayers to the fam­i­ly and friends of the woman.

The com­pa­ny al­so called for cau­tion by users of the na­tion's land­fills.

The SWM­COL state­ment gave no fur­ther de­tails of the in­ci­dent.
