A woman was stabbed and a man beat­en dur­ing an at­tack in East Port-of-Spain on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said the woman was on Nel­son Street, speak­ing with a friend at a par­lour around 8 pm, when she was ap­proached by a man, who she knows, who be­gan stab­bing her.

An­oth­er man, who was near­by, saw the at­tack and tried to sep­a­rate the sus­pect and vic­tim when he was beat­en.

Po­lice said the sus­pect fled the area but was ar­rest­ed short­ly af­ter and was tak­en to the Wood­brook Po­lice Sta­tion, where he was to be ques­tioned and charged.

Sources said the woman was list­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion and was be­ing treat­ed for punc­tured lungs.

Of­fi­cers of the Besson Street CID are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
