Vera Melville is thankful to fire officers for saving her home and the life of her incapacitated daughter.
A blaze broke out at Melville’s home around 9 am yesterday at Milford Road, Bon Accord, next to the Bon Accord Government Primary School.
Melville told Guardian Media the fire began in an apartment where her son Dejorn Melville, his wife, Dana Patrick, and the couple’s two children live.
They were not home at the time of the fire.
Melville said the Fire Service arrived on the scene quickly and a T&TEC crew passing in a truck also stopped to render assistance.
Melville said she has an 18-year-old daughter who suffers from Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, a genetic disorder that severely incapacitates the person affected by it.
The teen had to be rushed out of the burning house.
Melville said the cause of the fire was yet to be determined. —Shastri Boodan
