The Gender and Child Affairs Ministry, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), hosted a day of activities in commemoration of World Children’s Day at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) on November 20, 2023.
According to a release from the Ministry, the activities were held in recognition of the global theme for this year’s observance—“For Every Child, Every Right”—as well as in pursuit of its mandate “to promote the welfare of all children residing in Trinidad and Tobago”.
The events included the Sixth Annual Child Rights Ambassadors’ (CRA) Child Rights and Creative Arts Tutorial, hosted by the Child Affairs Division in the Gender and Child Affairs Ministry; and a Friends Beyond Borders Interactive Fair and Concert—led by UNICEF—for children from bilingual Child-friendly Spaces, secondary schools and children’s homes.
The Ministry reports that the CRA Programme featured information on children’s rights and responsibilities, interactive sessions on drama and digital design. Participating students also met former child right ambassadors, who informed them of the various opportunities under the CRA programme.
“The CRA Programme continues to reflect the Government’s commitment to supporting children’s rights and the importance of including children’s voices in the advocacy of their needs,” the Ministry asserts.
Key sponsors providing special treats for the children attending the event at SAPA were Kiss Baking Company and Holiday Snacks.
