The Gen­der and Child Af­fairs Min­istry, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Unit­ed Na­tions Chil­dren's Fund (UNICEF), host­ed a day of ac­tiv­i­ties in com­mem­o­ra­tion of World Chil­dren’s Day at the South­ern Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts (SAPA) on No­vem­ber 20, 2023.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the Min­istry, the ac­tiv­i­ties were held in recog­ni­tion of the glob­al theme for this year’s ob­ser­vance—“For Every Child, Every Right”—as well as in pur­suit of its man­date “to pro­mote the wel­fare of all chil­dren re­sid­ing in Trinidad and To­ba­go”.

The events in­clud­ed the Sixth An­nu­al Child Rights Am­bas­sadors’ (CRA) Child Rights and Cre­ative Arts Tu­to­r­i­al, host­ed by the Child Af­fairs Di­vi­sion in the Gen­der and Child Af­fairs Min­istry; and a Friends Be­yond Bor­ders In­ter­ac­tive Fair and Con­cert—led by UNICEF—for chil­dren from bilin­gual Child-friend­ly Spaces, sec­ondary schools and chil­dren’s homes.

The Min­istry re­ports that the CRA Pro­gramme fea­tured in­for­ma­tion on chil­dren’s rights and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties, in­ter­ac­tive ses­sions on dra­ma and dig­i­tal de­sign.  Par­tic­i­pat­ing stu­dents al­so met for­mer child right am­bas­sadors, who in­formed them of the var­i­ous op­por­tu­ni­ties un­der the CRA pro­gramme.

“The CRA Pro­gramme con­tin­ues to re­flect the Gov­ern­ment’s com­mit­ment to sup­port­ing chil­dren’s rights and the im­por­tance of in­clud­ing chil­dren’s voic­es in the ad­vo­ca­cy of their needs,” the Min­istry as­serts.

Key spon­sors pro­vid­ing spe­cial treats for the chil­dren at­tend­ing the event at SAPA were Kiss Bak­ing Com­pa­ny and Hol­i­day Snacks.
