The fe­male po­lice of­fi­cer who was shot in her ab­domen on Christ­mas Day re­mains in crit­i­cal con­di­tion at hos­pi­tal.

Woman Cor­po­ral Cud­joe-Joseph, who is in the In­ten­sive Care Unit (ICU), was shot just af­ter 1 pm on De­cem­ber 25, while re­spond­ing to the scene of the mur­der of 20-year-old Isa­iah Com­mis­siong in La Hor­quet­ta, Ari­ma.

While Cud­joe-Joseph and oth­er of­fi­cers were cor­don­ing off the mur­der scene, a brawl erupt­ed among res­i­dents. Po­lice said dur­ing the melee, 49-year-old Gar­rick Thomas St Clair burst the leg hol­ster to the right leg of a po­lice cor­po­ral, grabbed the ser­vice-is­sued pis­tol and dis­charged two rounds, shoot­ing Cud­joe-Joseph, who fell to the ground.

The oth­er of­fi­cers re­spond­ed and shot Thomas St Clair sev­er­al times. Cud­joe-Joseph and Thomas St Clair were tak­en to hos­pi­tal but Thomas St Clair died while un­der­go­ing treat­ment.

Af­ter the in­ci­dent, the of­fi­cers in­volved were de­briefed by per­son­nel from the Vic­tim and Wit­ness Sup­port Unit of the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice. They al­so re­ceived coun­selling.
