Residents of Trinidad and Tobago have been urged to remain vigilant as Adverse Weather Alert #3 - Yellow Level remains in effect until 10:00 pm on Monday. The alert covers both islands and surrounding waters.
The Meteorological Service reports that showers and isolated thunderstorms have been affecting the country over the last several hours, with heavy downpours and gusty winds reported in some areas. Tobago has experienced particularly frequent activity.
While the main axis of a strong tropical wave has moved past Trinidad and Tobago, trailing moisture and unstable atmospheric conditions continue to maintain a high chance of intermittent rainfall. These conditions are expected to persist through Monday, with periods of settled weather possible but conditions remaining conducive to impactful weather events.
Gusty winds accompanying heavy showers and thunderstorms may displace loose outdoor objects and further agitate seas. Heavy rainfall could result in street and flash flooding, localized ponding, and may trigger landslides or landslips, particularly in hillside or vulnerable areas.
The tropical wave currently has a low, 30 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next two days, as it moves further away from the area.
The TTMS advises residents to secure loose outdoor items and remain cautious, particularly motorists and those living in flood- or landslide-prone areas.
It says updates will continue to be provided as conditions evolve.
