A Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert has been activated for Trinidad and surrounding waters, and to a lesser extent, Tobago.
The Alert went into effect at 2:00 am today (June 10, 2025), and will remain active until 4:00 PM on Wednesday (June 11, 2025).
According to the advisory issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), there is a 60% chance of isolated heavy showers and thunderstorm activity associated with atmospheric instability expected from early morning.
Met Service forecasters warn that the most impactful weather is expected mainly over southern and eastern offshore areas this morning, slowly extending across Trinidad and Tobago.
“Showers and isolated thunderstorms continue to affect both islands,” the Met Service says. These may be accompanied by strong gusts near downpours and choppy seas, especially around Trinidad. While there may be a lull in activity later today—beginning first over Tobago—conditions are forecast to intensify again overnight, with a peak in activity expected on Wednesday morning.”

Gusty winds with varying intensities are expected in the vicinity of heavy downpours.
“Impacts include temporary traffic disruptions, street flooding and localised ponding, displacement of objects by gusts and difficulty anchoring marine craft, as well as landslides and landslips in vulnerable areas,” the advisory stated.
“These conditions and impacts are expected in intervals over the period,” it added.
Members of the public are strongly advised to do the following:
● Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent damage or injury.
● Motorists and residents in flood-prone areas should exercise caution. In essence, avoid flooded areas—whether driving or walking—and take extra care on the roads.
● Residents in low-lying or landslide-prone areas should remain alert and prepared to act.
● Mariners operating smaller craft should avoid exposed or choppy areas.
● Take ALL necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts.
