The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued an Adverse Weather Alert (Yellow Level) for Trinidad, warning of isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day.
The alert, activated at 10:00 am, is scheduled to remain in place until 6:00 pm today. It was prompted by atmospheric conditions favouring the development of intense rainfall, particularly over hilly areas.
According to the Met Service, these weather systems may bring gusty winds and heavy downpours. It says the associated risks include street and flash flooding, as well as landslides and landslips, especially along hillsides.
“Gusty winds can occur in the vicinity of heavy showers or thunderstorms and can lead to choppy seas,” the advisory states.
The Met Service has urged residents to secure loose outdoor objects and for motorists and those living in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
“Be aware of your surroundings and changing weather conditions. Take necessary precautions to mitigate potential impacts,” the statement said.
