The Meteorological Office issued an alert for 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm today, warning that a short lived band of strong wind with cloudiness and showers is approaching the islands.
It said there is a high, 80 per cent, potential for gusts above 55 km per hour, especially near showers. Weaker gusts may persist with varying intensities in overnight showers outside the alert period.
The Met Office said the gusts may displace unsecured items, including roofs, and may topple small trees or cause broken branches. It added that seas can become agitated, which may disrupt marine activity, including the manoeuvring of small craft.
