The talent of T&T’s young people was showcased on Saturday night when the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) held a concert as part of its Indian Heritage Month celebrations. The two-hour free show, Youths in Concert, held at the NCIC Nagar, Chaguanas, featured dance, drama, music and singing.
Devi Ramnath, spokesman and member of the NCIC’s Youth Arm, told the gathering at the Bisram Gopie Hall: “Today we commemorate the arrival of our Indian ancestors who left behind their homes and loved ones to embark of a journey to an unknown land which resulted in them paving the way for generations of Trinbagonians of East Indian descent to follow. Their struggle, perseverance and cultural legacy continue to shape our society today reminding us of the importance of diversity, unity and endurance.
“This day reminds us of their bravery, their resilience and their contribution to our vibrant T&T society. This year’s theme Yaatra Jaaree Hain- The Journey Continues, highlights not only the historical significance of this day but also its relevance to our present and our future.”
The programme opened with a dance by Ambay Abhiraj. The show also featured the talents of pannist Jevon Luke Rambarran, the Triveni Mandir Drama Group, 2022 NCIC Youth Champ Victoria Maharaj, the Avocat Vedic School Tassa Group, Priya Persad, Shivanand Basdeo, the Woodland Dance Academy and Arkash Carl.
