For­mer Min­is­ter of En­er­gy and En­er­gy In­dus­tries Stu­art Young has raised con­cerns about the cur­rent state of the en­er­gy sec­tor un­der the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress Gov­ern­ment.

In a state­ment is­sued on Face­book, Young point­ed to re­cent board ap­point­ments at the Na­tion­al Gas Com­pa­ny and Na­tion­al En­er­gy Cor­po­ra­tion as con­tribut­ing fac­tors to a de­vel­op­ing cri­sis at the Point Lisas In­dus­tri­al Es­tate.

Ac­cord­ing to Min­is­ter Young, the re­moval of the Pres­i­dent of NEC and ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cers of NGC has neg­a­tive­ly af­fect­ed stake­hold­er re­la­tion­ships and in­vestor con­fi­dence. He warned that the ac­tions of Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar and the two Min­is­ters of En­er­gy are lead­ing to a col­lapse of the sec­tor, which could re­duce fu­ture in­vest­ment and rev­enue.

Young called for at­ten­tion to what he de­scribed as the lev­el of in­ex­pe­ri­ence in the sec­tor’s cur­rent man­age­ment, urg­ing cit­i­zens to re­main aware of the po­ten­tial con­se­quences.

It comes as Nu­trien an­nounced the planned shut­down of its Trinidad Ni­tro­gen op­er­a­tions at the Pt Lisas fa­cil­i­ty.
