Former Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young has raised concerns about the current state of the energy sector under the United National Congress Government.
In a statement issued on Facebook, Young pointed to recent board appointments at the National Gas Company and National Energy Corporation as contributing factors to a developing crisis at the Point Lisas Industrial Estate.
According to Minister Young, the removal of the President of NEC and executive officers of NGC has negatively affected stakeholder relationships and investor confidence. He warned that the actions of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the two Ministers of Energy are leading to a collapse of the sector, which could reduce future investment and revenue.
Young called for attention to what he described as the level of inexperience in the sector’s current management, urging citizens to remain aware of the potential consequences.
It comes as Nutrien announced the planned shutdown of its Trinidad Nitrogen operations at the Pt Lisas facility.
