T&T cyclist Adam Alexander to contest road race tomorrow

The coun­try's first-ever Vir­tu­al Cy­cling win­ner Adam Alexan­der is set to add to his im­pres­sive per­for­mance when he con­tests Sun­day's T&T Cy­cling Fed­er­a­tion's Road Race, which takes place at the Bri­an Lara Sta­di­um in Tarou­ba, San Fer­nan­do.

The race is not a na­tion­al event but cy­clists earn­ing top po­si­tions will earn the right to be se­lect­ed on the na­tion­al team for fu­ture events.

Alexan­der, a for­mer na­tion­al en­durance rid­er pro­duced a light­ning-quick 29 min­utes to se­cure the fed­er­a­tion's in­au­gur­al 20-kilo­me­tre vir­tu­al cy­cling event at the In­door Cy­cling Stu­dio in Mu­cu­rapo Road, Port-of-Spain, de­spite com­pet­ing on the open­ing day.

Rox­anne Ram­nath, the fed­er­a­tion's Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer (PRO) said she looks for­ward to a good show­ing, af­ter not hav­ing ac­tiv­i­ties in more than four months. "This will be the first re­al nor­mal event since the COVID19 sit­u­a­tion, and there­fore all re­stric­tions laid down by the Gov­ern­ment and the Min­istry of Health will be ad­hered to, such as wear­ing of masks, tem­per­a­ture checks, no gath­er­ing or con­gre­gat­ing and prop­er san­i­ti­za­tion at all times."

The event starts at 7 am and will fea­ture ac­tion in sev­en cat­e­gories, name­ly the Elite men (30km) and women (20km) which will be equiv­a­lent to 15 and 10 laps re­spec­tive­ly, Ju­nior men and women (10km), Mas­ters 40-49 (10km), Mas­ters 50-59 (10km), Mas­ters 60-69 (10km), Mas­ters 70-plus (4km), Ju­ve­nile men and women (10km), and Tinymites men (6km) and women (4km).

Reg­is­tra­tion is cur­rent­ly on­go­ing at $80 per rid­er. Un­like the vir­tu­al cy­cling event, cy­clists will be pre­sent­ed with medals and first place tro­phies af­ter the event.
