Presentation College Chaguanas captain Luke Ali and Pradeem Ali led Savannah Boys to a 66-run win over Shannon Sports Club on Sunday (September 14) evening in the North Zone Cricket Festival at the Diego Martin Sports Complex.
Luke's 37-ball 56 and Pradeem's four-wicket haul helped Savannah Boys to bounce back from their opening loss to North Side Future Stars and hand Shannon their first loss in the campaign.
Savannah Boys were put in to bat first and got a 50-run partnership between Teshawn Castro (24) and Ali in just four overs and four balls, before Castro was caught by Nigel Benjamin off the bowling of Sylvon Cummings.
The wicket of Castro only brought Adrian Ali to the wicket and together with Luke, put on 81 for the second wicket and took them to 131 in the 13th over.
Shannon took wickets at regular intervals after that, including Luke’s wicket to the bowling of Joshua Davis at 170 for five.
Savannah Boys got a valuable 28 from Sameer Ali, who hit three sixes in his 14-ball 28 as they closed on 191 for nine from their 20 overs.
Sylvon Cummings was Shannon’s best bowler with four for 39, and Joshua Davis took two for 19.
In their reply, Shannon were plunged to 19 for three in the fourth over with Nigel Benjamin (6), Waylon George (7) and Joshua Davis (0) all back in the dug out.
First-match hero, Iqwe Craig, sought to rescue the innings with 67 but even his 51-ball innings could not save Shannon and bring victory.
Pradeem was the main antagonist for Savannah Boys, as he took four for 14 in four miserly overs. He was named the "Player of the Match".
Shannon closed on 125 for nine from their 20 overs, short by 66 runs.
Savannah Boys recorded their first win after opening day, losing to North Side Future Stars, while Shannon followed their opening win against Bourg Mulatresse with a loss.
