Four different players were on target as reigning champions Defence Force secured their first win in the T&T Hockey Board Indoor Championship Men’s Open Division, 4-3, over Malvern at the Woodbrook Youth Facility, Hamilton-Holder Street, Woodbrook, on Sunday.
Held to a 4-4 draw by Paragon in their tournament curtain-raiser on Saturday, Defence Force used goals from Dylan Francis, Mickel Pierre, Marcus James and Tariq Singh, to turn back Malvern who had the trio of Shawn Phillip, Tyrese Benjamin, and Lyndell Byer on target. Matches continue on the weekend.
In another Men’s Open Division encounter, QPCC hammered Notre Dame 15-0 led by a beaver-trick from Evan Farrell (18th, 20th, 32nd, 36th) while the trio of Jordan Vieira (2nd, 5th, 17th), Dominic Young (8th, 10th, 33rd), and Shawn Lee Quay (12th, 15th, 19th) added hat-tricks, and Mahinder Malli, a late double in the 29th, and 38th minutes.
In the Open/Trinity Women Division, Paragon (OW) racked up their second double-digit win, 13-2 against Ventures led by Danielle Thompson five goals (7th, 24th, 29th, 31st, 33rd) and a hat-trick from Naomi Sampson (18th, 18th, 19th) while Shape made it two straight wins in defence of their Trinity Men’s title by beating Fatima, 9-5.
