The third edi­tion of the T&T Bad­minton As­so­ci­a­tion Ju­nior Rank­ing Tour­na­ment will serve off at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre (NRC) in Or­ange Grove, Tacarigua on Sat­ur­day. 

Bad­minton As­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent Chan­dri­ka Ram­sub­hag is ea­ger­ly await­ing to see ac­tion in the tour­na­ment, as it has been his brain­child over the past few years to not on­ly al­low young play­ers to see where they are in terms of rank­ings but to of­fer a de­vel­op­ment op­por­tu­ni­ty. 

“From the tour­na­ment, play­ers will be able to make cor­rec­tive ac­tions to their game for the Ju­nior Na­tion­als lat­er this year,” Ram­sub­hag ex­plained. The tour­na­ment will take place among the five age brack­ets, name­ly the un­der 11, 13, 15, 17, and un­der-19, over two week­ends—18-19 and then Jan­u­ary 25 and 26 at the same venue. 

Ram­sub­hag said so far 103 play­ers have been reg­is­tered. He al­so not­ed that the round-robin for­mat alone, where the top play­ers may be beat­en, would al­low play­ers to im­prove their game. 

Mean­while, from that bad­minton tour­na­ment, the TT­BA will head straight in­to the Sec­ondary Schools Bad­minton Com­pe­ti­tion, which will be con­test­ed in two tiers from Jan­u­ary 21-22. 

Ac­cord­ing to Ram­sub­hag, Tier A of the tour­na­ment will cater to more ad­vanced play­ers while Tier B will deal with play­ers who have not been in­volved in the sport for a long time. 

That tour­na­ment will take place at the South­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Pleas­antville for Tier B, while Tier A will take place at the NRC.
