Former Northern Football Association (NFA) general secretary and Caledonia AIA assistant coach and trainer Akel Baig is the new president of the NFA.
This after Baig defeated Edwin Jones of Trendsetter Hawks 13-6 in votes for the position at the NFA's annual general meeting (AGM) held at Board Street, Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain on Saturday (June 8).
Both Baig and Jones were the two nominees for the position which was vacated by out-going president and former national goalkeeper Ross Russell, who was appointed in 2020.
The other new executive members elected on Saturday included Dennis Bristol (first vice-president), Cedric Hazelwood (second vice-president), Reginald Crichlow (assistant secretary of administration), Sheldon Moore Jr (assistant secretary of operations), and ordinary members Kareem Paul, newly appointed T&T Football Association (TTFA) general secretary and Nevick Denoon, a former national footballer.
Bristol and Moore Jr were both elected unopposed to their executive roles while Hazelwood, a coach at Miscellaneous Laventille United edged Derick Edwards 10-9 in votes; Crichlow also eked out a 10-9 win against Marvin Small and Paul and Denoon got the nod ahead of University of the West Indies (UWI) lecturer Roger Watts and Roger Vialva, 12-7 and 13-6, respectively.
