For­mer North­ern Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (NFA) gen­er­al sec­re­tary and Cale­do­nia AIA as­sis­tant coach and train­er Akel Baig is the new pres­i­dent of the NFA.

This af­ter Baig de­feat­ed Ed­win Jones of Trend­set­ter Hawks 13-6 in votes for the po­si­tion at the NFA's an­nu­al gen­er­al meet­ing (AGM) held at Board Street, Tra­garete Road, Port-of-Spain on Sat­ur­day (June 8).

Both Baig and Jones were the two nom­i­nees for the po­si­tion which was va­cat­ed by out-go­ing pres­i­dent and for­mer na­tion­al goal­keep­er Ross Rus­sell, who was ap­point­ed in 2020.

The oth­er new ex­ec­u­tive mem­bers elect­ed on Sat­ur­day in­clud­ed Den­nis Bris­tol (first vice-pres­i­dent), Cedric Hazel­wood (sec­ond vice-pres­i­dent), Regi­nald Crichlow (as­sis­tant sec­re­tary of ad­min­is­tra­tion), Shel­don Moore Jr (as­sis­tant sec­re­tary of op­er­a­tions), and or­di­nary mem­bers Ka­reem Paul, new­ly ap­point­ed T&T Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion (TTFA) gen­er­al sec­re­tary and Nevick De­noon, a for­mer na­tion­al foot­baller.

Bris­tol and Moore Jr were both elect­ed un­op­posed to their ex­ec­u­tive roles while Hazel­wood, a coach at Mis­cel­la­neous Laven­tille Unit­ed edged De­r­ick Ed­wards 10-9 in votes; Crichlow al­so eked out a 10-9 win against Mar­vin Small and Paul and De­noon got the nod ahead of Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) lec­tur­er Roger Watts and Roger Vial­va, 12-7 and 13-6, re­spec­tive­ly.
