Makeda Bain claimed two titles on day three of the Lease Operators Junior Tennis Tournament at the National Racquet Centre (NRC) in Orange Grove, Tacarigua on Sunday.
Bain, arguably one of the most talented junior talents on local shores having won two titles at the COTECC Junior Trinity Cup Under-14 tournament earlier this year, was in ominous form yesterday as she clinched the Girls' 14 and Under crown, courtesy of an almost flawless 6-1 6-1 triumph over third-seed Cherdine Sylvester in the final.
Later, the top-seeded Bain secured her second silverware of the tournament when she defeated Madison Khan, the second-seeded player, in the final 6-1, 6-2 in the final of the 16 and Under division.
Only earlier, Bain made her intentions of a double crown clear by disposing of Cyra Ramcharan 6-0, 6-2 in the round of four (semifinals), which propelled her to the title match.
The victories continued an upward trend for the Tobagonian, having been selected by the Grand Slam Player Development Programme and the International Tennis Federation to represent the Central America & Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) region in February. At that time, Bain was ranked second in the COTECC region.
She is now in line for a third crown, having teamed up with Madison Khan to dispose of the pair of Cyra Ramcharan and Suri Ramcharan in the semifinals 6-0, 6-0 yesterday in the Senior Girls Doubles. They were scheduled to face the combination of Karissa and Lilly Mohammed in the final yesterday.
Bain's triumph in the 14 and Under division was followed by Christopher Khan, who clinched the boys' equivalent (boys 14 & Under crown). It came after he brushed aside Jacob Jacelon 6-1, 6-2, while last year's triple crown winner at the RBC Junior Tennis Tournament, Josiah Hills, cruised past Jacelon 6-2, 6-0. Coincidentally, it was the fifth-ranked Jacelon's second straight loss in a final on the day.
Meanwhile, Keyah Roberts completed an almost flawless display 4-0 4-0 to clinch the girls' 16 and Under Consolation crown at the hands of Jadia Highly.
