Former national cricketer Mario Belcon belted 125 as Merryboys scored an innings and 24-run win away to Munroe Road over the weekend in the T&T Cricket Board Premiership II action.
The home team batted first and were bowled out for a disappointing 58. Munroe Road’s innings lasted only 35.4 overs as Raul Ali top-scored with 19 and Krishna Partap made 13.
Rakesh Seecheran had the remarkable figures of five wickets for five runs from 7.4 overs. Darren Deonarine took 4 for 13 as the two bowlers tormented the Munroe Road team.
In reply, Merryboys registered 230 from 67.2 overs. Belcon hit 13 fours in his 136-ball knock of 125. Kurt Surzano was his aide, scoring 43 that included two fours from 93 balls. Alex Chase was Munroe Road’s best bowler, taking 3 for 16.
Munroe Road did fare better in their second innings, but they did not force Merryboys to bat again. The Central-based team scored 148 in their second innings, bowled out in 36.5 overs.
Suraj Seepaul, by himself, scored more than the team’s first innings when he produced 69, hitting six sixes in the process. Daron Cruickshank took 3 for 35 for the visitors, as Merryboys won by an innings and 24 runs.
In Williamsville, the Premier League Under-19 team scored 201, batting first against Cosmos Sports Club.
Matheus Komal scored 48 as he top-scored for the young cricketers. Guyana Harpy Eagles player Clinton Pestano took 4 for 74, while St Benedict’s Chris Sadanan took 4 for 68 for Cosmos.
In reply, Clinton Prestano returned to hit six sixes and seven fours in his knock of 106, as Cosmos scored 282 runs from 63.2 overs. Ryan Basdeo scored 64 runs to assist Prestano. Vasant Singh took 4 for 54 and Presentation College’s (San Fernando) Ricardo Chase took 3 for 43.
In their second innings, scored 177 all out in 52.5 overs. Nick Ramlal and Zachary Siewah both scored 45. Sadanan took 3 for 13 and Nathan Roopan took 3 for 36, as the match fizzled out to a draw.
