Bishop Anstey Junior look to dominate at National Primary Schools' Swim Meet

De­fend­ing cham­pi­ons Bish­op Anstey Ju­nior will look to con­tin­ue their dom­i­nance amongst co-ed­u­ca­tion­al pri­ma­ry schools as the Aquat­ics Sports As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (ASATT) Na­tion­al Pri­ma­ry Schools' Swim Meet on Sun­day (June 4) at the Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence pool in Ma­coya, Tu­na­puna.

St Patrick's (New­town) Boys’ RC and Sa­cred Heart Girls’ RC will al­so aim to de­fend their crowns amongst boy and girl schools re­spec­tive­ly. Some 300 par­tic­i­pants from 56 pri­ma­ry schools will splash off from 9 am fol­low­ing the open­ing cer­e­mo­ny at 8.30 am.

Five home-schooled swim­mers will al­so com­pete and a vis­it­ing con­tin­gent from Bar­ba­dos will par­tic­i­pate as an ex­hi­bi­tion team.

The com­pe­ti­tion promis­es to be in­tense as teams keen­ly con­test for the top spot in their re­spec­tive cat­e­gories. The top boys' and girls' de­vel­op­ment teams will al­so be award­ed.

The meet will fea­ture swim­mers from as young as five years old to some of the top young age group swim­mers na­tion­al­ly. This will be one of the last re­main­ing rac­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties be­fore the Good­will se­lec­tion com­pe­ti­tion, the Na­tion­al Age Group Short Course Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships, sched­uled for Ju­ly.

This will be the first na­tion­al pri­ma­ry schools com­pe­ti­tion since 2019 giv­en the lock downs and re­stric­tions from March 2020 through to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic.

The Blue Dol­phin Swim Club will host the meet as it has since 2006. Meet man­ag­er Shawn Pouchet ex­pects an en­thused and en­er­getic crowd is ex­pect­ed as friends and fam­i­ly come to sup­port their young charges.

"Look­ing for­ward to an en­ter­tain­ing and ex­cit­ing day of rac­ing and pas­sion­ate school sup­port!" said Pouchet.
