National swimmer Nikoli Blackman swam to a gold and silver medal at Tennessee Aquatics June Invitational which ended at the Allen Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Centre at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee on Sunday.
Blackman, who turned 20 on Saturday, and was using the meet as part of his preparations for the World Aquatics Championships to be held in Singapore from July 11 to August 3, first won heat eight of the men's 100 metres butterfly in 56.03 seconds, with London Hall second in 57.10 and Chief Greene, third in 57.27 while Jed Holliman was also under the one minute mark in 59.28 on Friday.
However, in the afternoon session finals, Blackman had to settle for the silver medal with a time of 54.92, to trail his University of Tennessee schoolmate, Bjoern Kammann who won in 53.19 while Hayden Vicknair took bronze in 55.09.
On Saturday, in the Boys' 200m freestyle, Blackman won his morning heat in one minute, 53.43 with Kuba Shaw second in 1:54.13 and Luke, third in 1:57.07.
In the A-final, the T&T swimmer was much faster after he touched the wall in 1:51.34 followed by Shaw in 1:53.18 and Chief Greene in 1:56.83.
