Skipper Brendan Boodoo’s man-of-the-match performance with both bat and ball led host Presentation College San Fernando (Sando) to a 38-run victory over rival Naparima College at Lewis Street, Tuesday.
The visitors elected to bat first and enjoyed a dominant 118-run opening stand between Riyaad Mohammed (73) and Levi Ghanny (60). Ghanny was the first casualty in the 16th over, having struck seven fours and three sixes before becoming the first of Arnaldo Premchand’s four wickets.
His dismissal brought Boodoo to the crease in his second year as captain. The former national Under-15 and U-17 captain and current West Indies U-19 cricketer slammed four fours and a six in his 80. He shared an 82-run partnership with Mohammed, who was dismissed with the score at 200 for 2 in the 28th over.
When Boodoo fell to Arion Mohammed in the 41st over at 249 for 5, the momentum shifted. Presentation fell at the mercy of Amrit Pittiman, who claimed 4 for 47. The 2023 double champions were ultimately bowled out for 271 in 47.5 overs.
In reply, "Naps" started strongly and appeared to be cruising at 72 for 2 in the 15th over as Jordan Julien (43) and Veer Arjoon (36) combined for 34 runs after Julien and Amit Chan (11) put on 38 for the opening stand. Boodoo eventually broke the momentum by removing Julien.
Aadi Ramsaran, like his opposing captain, stood tall for his team and scored 62 with seven fours and two sixes, and shared in a 100-run stand with Arjoon until Boodoo again interjected with the wicket of Arjoon.
But Presentation struck with back-to-back wickets, getting both Arjoon and Ramsaran with the score on 172 as they were suddenly four wickets down, needing 100 runs to win from 75 balls.
Aaden Owen and Boodoo finished with three wickets each as Naparima was bowled out for 215 for 9 in 43.5 overs to surrender a 38-run defeat to their cross-town rivals.
