Campbell, Costa-Ramirez crowned National Champs

The pair of Ak­il Camp­bell and Alexi Cos­ta-Ramirez was crowned na­tion­al cham­pi­ons when the T&T Cy­cling Fed­er­a­tion's Na­tion­al Cham­pi­onships Time Tri­als were held in Waller­field on Sat­ur­day af­ter­noon.

Cos­ta-Ramirez, who re­cent­ly signed to join the Amer­i­can tour team Mi­a­mi Blaz­ers for the 2023 sea­son, de­mol­ished the field in the Elite Women 15-Lap event by sprint­ing to vic­to­ry in a time of 35 min­utes and 13.71 sec­onds.

She was a com­fort­able five min­utes ahead of her clos­est ri­val, sec­ond-place Mar­sha Trepte of the Raiders Cy­cle and Mul­ti­sport Team, cross­ing the fin­ish line in 40:50.68 and third-place Kani­ka Paul-Payne in 40:56.65, rid­ing un­at­tached.

Mean­while, Camp­bell, ex­pect­ed to win the men's elite 22-lap time tri­al event, did not dis­ap­point. With the ris­ing Tariq Woods of the Evo­lu­tion Cy­cling Acad­e­my ex­pect­ed to be his main com­peti­tor, the PSL rid­er put foot to the ped­al to fin­ish a dis­tance three min­utes ahead of Woods in 41:04.53.

Woods took the sil­ver medal in 44: 33.60 while En­rique De Co­mar­mond of Heat­wave was third in a time of 45:42.97.
