The trio of Cara­pichaima East Sec­ondary, Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka, and Scar­bor­ough Sec­ondary sealed pro­mo­tion to the 2025 sea­son of the Sec­ondary Schools Foot­ball League Boys Pre­mier Di­vi­sion when the fi­nal round of match­es in the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion ‘Big Five’ took place on Tues­day (Jan­u­ary 21).

Go­ing in­to the resched­uled Round One match­es, three of the four teams that were in ac­tion—Cara­pichaima East Sec­ondary, Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka, and Scar­bor­ough Sec­ondary—all had their own des­tiny in their hands, and at the end of the re­spec­tive en­coun­ters, they all man­aged what they set out to do.

At the St Mary’s Recre­ation Ground in Freeport, Cara­pichaima East, who start­ed the day ahead of Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka and idle Hillview Col­lege on goal dif­fer­ence with all three teams on five points, went ahead in the 49th minute thanks to Damar­i­an Boswell, which meant op­po­nents Scar­bor­ough Sec­ondary was on the brink of elim­i­na­tion.

How­ev­er, 15 min­utes from full-time, Jeswron Woods snatched an equalis­er for the vis­i­tors, which se­cured a valu­able point to move ahead of Hillview Col­lege on goal dif­fer­ence and in­to the third spot on the five-team round-robin ta­ble.

Com­ment­ing on her team’s pro­mo­tion of the tour­na­ment win, Lynelle Marchan, Cara­pichaima East’s man­ag­er, said it was well de­served.

Marchan added, “We were well pre­pared for this com­pe­ti­tion. Our boys start­ed train­ing way back in Ju­ly last year, and they put a lot of hard work in, and this re­sult is the out­come of a lot of hard train­ing ses­sions.”

“As a team and coach­ing staff, we are very proud of our achieve­ment and very elat­ed to see our school back in the pre­mier com­pe­ti­tion next sea­son,’ end­ed Marchan.

At the Man­nie Ramjohn Sta­di­um Train­ing Field, Mara­bel­la, the ac­tion was just as in­tense with Pleas­antville Sec­ondary, which en­tered the clash with a mere point and no chance of pro­mo­tion tak­ing the lead through En­e­sio Williams in the 12th minute which his team took in­to the half-time in­ter­val.

Need­ing a goal to get back on lev­el terms and ce­ment their pro­mo­tion spot, Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka got a de­served strike from Jaden Samuel in the 71st minute, and two min­utes from the fi­nal whis­tle, Jashon Forde fired the North Zone Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion win­ners ahead and cer­tain of pro­mo­tion.

How­ev­er, there was still one last twist to the en­counter as Pleas­antville Sec­ondary man­aged to snatch a late draw through Ah­jahi­di No­ray’s equalis­er six min­utes in­to time added on.

De­spite the drawn re­sult, Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka end­ed with six points from their four match­es, lev­el with Cara­pichaima East but in the sec­ond spot on goal dif­fer­ence.

Speak­ing af­ter the point ce­ment­ed his team’s re­turn to the top flight of the SS­FL, Khal­lid Pile, the man­ag­er of Trin­i­ty Col­lege of Mo­ka, said he was very hap­py that his team was able to qual­i­fy for their ob­jec­tive.

The pro­mo­tion of Cara­pichaima East Sec­ondary, Trin­i­ty Col­lege Mo­ka, and Scar­bor­ough Sec­ondary, all for­mer Pre­mier Di­vi­sion com­peti­tors, will see the trio re­plac­ing Spey­side Sec­ondary, East Mu­cu­rapo Sec­ondary, and Mir­a­cle Min­istries Pen­te­costal High School, who were rel­e­gat­ed af­ter end­ing in po­si­tions 14th, 15th, and 16th, re­spec­tive­ly, in the 2024 SS­FL Pre­mier Di­vi­sion.
