Trinidad and To­ba­go Red Force leg spin­ner Yan­nic Cari­ah pro­duced the first hat-trick of the 2025 CG Unit­ed Su­per 50 tour­na­ment on Fri­day, when the Red Force de­feat­ed Ja­maica Scor­pi­ons by 75 runs at the Bri­an Lara Crick­et Acad­e­my in Tarou­ba.

Af­ter a rain-aban­doned open­ing match against the Bar­ba­dos Pride on Wednes­day, the 2023 Cham­pi­ons were de­ter­mined not to fall fur­ther be­hind the lead­ers, Wind­ward Is­lands (who beat the Lee­wards on open­ing day) and Bar­ba­dos (who beat the Lee­wards on Fri­day).

The Red Force were put in to bat first and scored 256 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Vet­er­an bats­man Ja­son Mo­hammed led the way with 87; the for­mer West In­dies ODI cap­tain struck five six­es and two fours in his 103-ball knock. He was sup­port­ed by Cephas Coop­er, who sig­nalled to West In­dies Head Coach Dar­ren Sam­my that he is able to as­sist with the West In­dies White Ball bat­ting woes at the top of the or­der.

The Pow­er­gen open­er hit 11 fours in an in­nings that spanned 78 balls. To­geth­er the two Pow­er­gen bats­men put on 62 for the third wick­et part­ner­ship be­fore Coop­er de­part­ed at 106 for three.

Con­tri­bu­tions from West In­dies all-rounder Navin Bidaisee (20) and Joshua James (22) added valu­able runs at the low­er end of the in­nings.

In re­ply, Ja­maica were put on the back foot quick­ly when they lost Car­los Brown for five with the score on 19.

They made a mi­ni re­cov­ery, but when they lost Kirk McKen­zie for 39 at 67 for three, they lost mo­men­tum and lost half their bat­ting line­up in the 16th over at 81 for five.

Brad Barnes, who, along with Mar­quino Mind­ley, took three wick­ets when Red Force bat­ted, shared in a 52-run re­cov­ery in­nings with Peat Salmon and took the score to 133 when Salmon de­part­ed for 33.

Cari­ah then de­railed the Ja­maicans in the 38th over, tak­ing the wick­ets of Ab­hi­hai Mans­ingh, Jeav­or Roy­al and Mind­ley, one af­ter the oth­er, in con­sec­u­tive in­nings as the Scor­pi­ons were even­tu­al­ly bowled out for 181 in 39.4 overs.

Cari­ah fin­ished with 4-24 while Goolie took 3-15.
