Trinidad and Tobago’s rising swim star Liam Carrington continued his record-breaking form this season, delivering a series of outstanding performances for The Bolles School at the Florida High School Class 1A Swimming and Diving Championships, held on Saturday (November 8) at the FAST Aquatic Centre in Ocala, Florida.
Carrington captured the State Championship title in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking an impressive 42.66 seconds to break the school record previously held by three-time Olympian Ryan Murphy. Murphy’s record of 42.95 seconds, set back in 2012, had stood for 13 years until Carrington’s sensational swim.
Just weeks earlier, on October 28 at the Regional High School competition hosted by The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Carrington also broke a pool record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.10 seconds, surpassing Andres Dupont Cabrera’s previous mark of 44.40 seconds.
At the State Championships on Saturday, Carrington also anchored The Bolles School’s boys’ 200-yard medley relay team, leading them to a national and meet record with a time of 1:26.67. The relay team, which included Krish Jain, Lucas Young, George Dovellos, and Carrington, eclipsed the previous National High School record of 1:26.75 set earlier this year by Hinsdale Central (Illinois).
Carrington’s lightning-fast 19.32 anchor leg proved decisive, outpacing Hinsdale’s anchor by nearly a full second, and cemented the new national mark. The win also broke Bolles’ previous school record of 1:29.02, which was established in 2012 by a legendary relay team featuring Olympians Ryan Murphy and Joseph Schooling.
The Bolles relay victory marked the school’s sixth consecutive 200-yard medley relay state title, and its 17th in the past 18 years. Carrington also contributed to two additional first-place relay finishes for The Bolles School, helping the team sweep all three relays: The 200-yard freestyle relay, where they clocked 1:20.29 with his teammates Tommy Lussier, Ethan Bathala, and Dovellos, and the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 2:55.23 together with Nicholas Kwan, Charlie Zuhoski, and Dovellos.
Carrington’s performances helped Bolles secure its 38th consecutive Boys’ State Championship title, while the girls’ team continued its streak with a 35th straight championship victory.
The Bolles relay team showcased not only dominance but also promise for the future of collegiate swimming, with Carrington set to join NC State University next fall.
