T&T's Liam Carrington of the Bolles High School in Jacksonville, Florida broke the 13-14 Boys 100m freestyle national record at the 2023 Speedo East Winter Championships Long Course Time Trial last weekend (December 9-10) in Columbus, Ohio,
The USA-based Carrington touched the wall in 51.99 seconds to better the previous mark of 52.33 held by Joshua Romany since 2010 and placed third in the event.
Carrington also also competed in the 200 yard backstroke event with a time of one minute, 46.85 seconds, the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.20 minutes, and the 100 yard backstroke in 49.67.
A former student of Presentation College, San Fernando, he is presently in Grade 10 at The Bolles School, Jacksonville, Florida
Earlier this year at the National Age-Group Short Course (Goodwill Trials) in July 2023, he established two records, first in the 800m freestyle with a time of 8:40.62 to improve on the record held previously by Nikoli Blackman (8:46.02) since in 2019, then the 100m freestyle with 51.89 previously held by Joshua Romany of 51.91 in 2010
At the CCCAN Championships held in El Salvador in August 2023, Carrington won six gold medals, one silver and three bronze along with 1 games record and three new national marks.
